Netgem launched new OTT Multiscreen Service for Gibtelecom with Broadpeak

Netgem end-to-end OTT TV solution integrates high-quality sourced content with Broadpeak’s CDN to deliver a Superior QoE for Subscribers Watching Live, VOD, Catch-Up, Restart, and Pause TV with the award-winning Netgem User Experience.

LONDON, UK — Sept.24, 2018

Netgem, a leader in TV and Entertainment for over 20 years, today announced that Gibtelecom, the largest telecommunications provider in the British overseas territory of Gibraltar, has launched a new TV multiscreen digital entertainment service called Sofi earlier this summer, powered by Netgem OTT Cloud platform and devices, and Broadpeak®, a leading provider of content delivery network (CDN) and video streaming solutions for content providers and pay-TV operators worldwide.

Netgem has served as the prime integrator, leading the project end-to-end to deliver a complete TV entertainment software suite and devices in the home, combined with sourcing the best content for Gibraltar. Netgem has deployed the most advanced OTT Multiscreen service for Gibtelecom: from sourcing content rights (70+ channels including Sky Sports Premier League, Eurosport, and Amazon Prime Video), to the deployment of the Netgem Cloud Platform for smart EPG and nPVR – integrated with Broadpeak CDN infrastructure. By combining Netgem Cloud-platform OTT solution with its award-winning multiscreen User experience, Netgem has streamlined the deployment of the solution for Gitelecom and delivered in record time the best legitime TV solution with Netgem’s SoundBox and NetBox set-top-boxes (STBs) in the Gibraltar territory.

Broadpeak’s BkM100 video delivery manager, BkS400 HTTP video cache servers, and BkS350 origin packager are integrated with Netgem’s SoundBox, it’s first all-in-one smart soundbar and TV box, its advanced NetBox HD (STBs) and middleware, enabling Gibtelecom to deliver over 70 live channels and advanced features like catch-up, pause, and start-over TV to subscribers on every screen.

Launching our first TV multiscreen service, the top priority was to provide licensed content whilst providing the best experience for subscribers on every screen,” said Adrian Moreno, COO at Gibtelecom. “Netgem were strong partners and provided a wealth of experience in OTT deployments, excellent relationships with the content industry and, combined with Broadpeak high performance infrastructure solutions, this helped us introduce our Sofi service to market quickly and meet subscribers’ demands for high-quality live and VOD content on a wide range of devices.”

Broadpeak’s BkS350 origin and packaging server records linear services in one format and dynamically packages the content in the requested ABR format, enabling Gibtelecom to support catch-up TV and other on-demand offerings that are highly desired by today’s television viewers. Using Broadpeak’s BkS400 HTTP video cache servers and BkM100 video delivery manager, the operator can cache content at the headend level and reduce load at the origin server in order to support massive streaming capacity, increase content delivery efficiency, and reduce CDN costs.

“We are thrilled to have delivered the best content and user experience on this fully licensed TV multiscreen services for Gibtelecom, and are very pleased to have partnered with Broadpeak on this next-generation OTT service,” said Sylvain Thevenot, Managing Director at Netgem UK. “While television viewers are increasingly watching content on connected devices like smartphones and tablets, the television is still the main screen where families gather to watch live sports and entertainment. Using our cutting-edge Soundbox and STBs, synchronized with Broadpeak CDN solutions, Gibtelecom subscribers can enjoy OTT content, including apps like Amazon Prime Video, on the main screen.” “Gibtelecom is a member of the Teleforum of Telecoms Operators of Small States, a prestigious industry group whose participants include Síminn and Andorra Telecom, operators that also rely on Broadpeak’s CDN and server solutions for OTT video delivery,” said Jacques Le Mancq, CEO at Broadpeak. “Adding Gibtelecom’s Sofi to our list of global OTT deployments is a testament to the innovation our solutions offer, in terms of bringing scalability, secured delivery, cost savings, and superior QoE to the multiscreen environment. We’re proud to partner with Netgem on this project and look forward to working together in the future.”
