Multicast ABR

Upgrade IPTV to ABR with no compromise on QoE

M-ABR – Multicast ABR – was launched in 2012 by Broadpeak to bring the scalability and compelling Quality of Experience (QoE) of broadcast TV to IPTV networks. The solutions combines the proven quality and efficiency of multicast distribution with the added value that ABR formats bring.

With nanoCDN™, Broadpeak’s multicast ABR solution, viewers can seamlessly navigate between live and time-shift, from their main screen to any mobile devices and get personalized content, all this with no compromise on the quality of their experience and at no extra cost for the operator.

BENEFITS & FEATURES

nanoCDN has been specifically designed to avoid any kind of regression compared to traditional broadcast. In particular, it implements optimizations for ultra-low latency such as HTTP chunked transfer encoding and CMAF chunking, bringing down the latency after encoding to a negligible amount.

Moreover, real-time analytics allow to monitor the usage and the efficiency of the solution.

WHAT’S MORE ABOUT Multicast ABR

Multicast ABR requires to deploy two main components: a transcaster in the head-end to encapsulate the unicast stream into multicast and a nanoCDN agent in the home gateways or STBs to convert the multicast back into unicast. With more than 10 years experience in mABR, Broadpeak has integrated the nanoCDN agent with more than 80 models of CPES from major vendors including Android TV boxes and Apple TV. New models can be easily supported on demand.
