Broadpeak at MWC 2023

March 19, 2023

At Mobile World Congress 2023, we focused on solutions that we developed for ISPs, especially for controlling the network cost, saving hardware and energy, and monetizing the network with OTTs. In other words, we were there to talk about:

  • reducing the ever-increasing cost of networks due to OTT video streaming;
  • addressing the challenge of peaks of traffic;
  • offloading networks, fixed and mobile, and saving infrastructure hardware and energy;
  • delivering energy-efficient streaming;
  • increasing the value of networks;
  • creating monetization opportunities with streaming platforms, broadcasters, and other OTT content providers.

MWC is an important trade show for Broadpeak, and one of Xavier Leclerqc’s favorite shows. According to our VP of Business Development, MWC is an amazing forward-looking show. The Gran Via in Barcelona becomes the epicenter to discuss vision and strategy for future technology developments.

MWC 2023 in number
MWC 2023 in numbers.

MWC 2023 counted more than 88k attendees. It was a busy edition and we could see it at our stand too. We had a successful show with more than a hundred of meetings with customers, partners, analysts and the press.

As Juliette Bichot, Communications & Event Manager, said, “after two years of a rather calm recovery (after covid) indeed the storm blew well on Barcelona (a real storm hit Barcelona during the event, find more here) and even more on this MWC 2023 edition with an almost normal recovery of the show’s energy! We could feel that the show was full of dynamism in all the halls and especially at the Broadpeak booth! This was a MWC back at its peak! ’”

Video Streaming at MWC 2023

Yann Bégassat, Business Development Director for 5G and Edge Ecosystems, was impressed to see that video was everywhere, despite Mobile World Congress not being a show specifically dedicated to the video industry. As he said:

“Video streaming of holograms through AR glasses, video analytics in manufacturing and security use cases, video in cloud gaming, 5G broadcast for video production and distribution, etc. MWC confirmed that video was driving the vast majority of 5G – and very soon 6G – use cases and volumes of traffic.”

He explained that consumers want new video experiences using devices and wearables that are not too heavy, not too intrusive, and do not completely disconnect them from the real world. That’s why he was delighted to see that VR/XR glasses have made significant progress. They are much lighter and wireless, which is key for mass market adoption of new video applications and experiences.

Broadpeak & Intel

We showcased our Advanced CDN software at the Intel booth, running on the newly launched Intel’s Converged Edge Media Platform. Intel’s new multi-service platform allows CDN and cloud gaming workloads to run concurrently on the same infrastructure and auto-scale depending on streaming and gaming demand respectively.

On the occasion of this partnership, Intel interviewed Yann Bégassat on this exciting collaboration. Watch it here.

The hottest trends at MWC 2023

“I saw three clear and strong forces emerging from the mobile industry that both compete and collaborate: first, the network operators, struggling not to become dumb pipes; then, the public cloud service providers, gaining ground year after year in the telecom space; finally, the OTT application and content providers, trying to capture as much value as possible.”

Yann Bégassat

We were 10 Broadpeakers present at the event to welcome customers, partners, friends, and contacts. Jacques Le Mancq, CEO at Broadpeak, Xavier Leclercq, Yann Bégassat, and sales directors Konstantin Filippov and Aitor Santiago, took the time to share with you some of the trends they spotted there.

We are not only in tune with trends but also leading many of them. An example is our solutions to make streaming more sustainable. Sustainability is at the core of our values and we’ve been working hard to develop energy-efficient streaming software that also enables better utilization of the hardware, running in parallel with other applications.

See you next year, Barcelona!

We are already looking forward to next year’s MWC. If you are too, don’t miss out on these 3 must-visit spots while you’re in Barcelona, according to Aitor Santana.

 See you at MWC 2024!
