June 5th is World Environment Day, a date chosen by the United Nations in 1972 to reinforce and sustain awareness around environmental action.
This year, we have decided to participate by sharing our commitment to reducing our greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions and contribute to the global efforts of limiting global warming and making video streaming more sustainable for all!
A few months ago, we committed to reducing Broadpeak’s GHG emissions by -31% by 2030.
This decision comes after measuring our annual carbon* footprint for 2022 and 2023 with experts in carbon emissions assessments.
With their help, we have been able to understand with precision where our carbon emissions come from among scope 1, 2 and 3. Without much of a surprise, as a software company, the vast majority of our emissions classify as scope 3 emissions, meaning they are indirect, emitted across our value chain.
And although they are not directly control by Broadpeak, we are willing to get into action and reduce them.

Reducing Carbon Emissions
With the help of Orki, our partner for reducing carbon emissions, we have set a carbon emissions reduction target that is achievable and realistic, and we have designed an action plan to reach our goal.

We have identified 9 main themes to reduce our impact: products and raw materials, engaging our service providers into CSR, travels, goods transportation, equipment optimization, digital and cloud optimization, energy reduction, waste management, and raising awareness. We’ve already launched some actions, others will require more planning and time to be implemented.
We can’t do this alone and we will work with our entire supply chain to find the most efficient ways to work together towards less carbon emissions.
We will measure our progress each year to adjust the action plan if needed.
Science Based Targets commitment
We are also in the process of validating our commitment of emissions reduction for scope 1 and 2 through Science Based Targets.
* To make it easier to read, we have used “carbon emissions” but we are talking about carbon equivalent, which includes other greenhouse gas.
